EURank 2024

The EURank Team is returning to present you the 50 best Super Smash Bros. Melee players in Europe. Who made the list, who's in the top 10, and what storylines have these players experienced that you may not have picked up on? EURank2024 is here to answer these questions. A total of 19 panelists from 10 different countries took a look at who beat whom in 2024 and submitted their ballots where they scored players based on how good they think their results are. But first, let's look at the players who did not make the list due to a lack of attendance.

Honourable Mention: Trif

trif player card

2024 was another great year for last year’s number 1 on the EURank. Trif started the year strong with a win over Jmook at Collision 2024 in March. Stellar performances at GENESIS X and Get On My Level X led to the Spanish Peach’s first-ever ranking in the global top 10, securing himself the number 10 spot on SSBMRank Summer 2024. He consistently placed no lower than 17th at majors, but since he attended only one European tournament, he wasn’t eligible for EURank this year. There’s no doubt that Trif could reclaim the number 1 spot with a few more European appearances in 2025.

Honourable Mention: Leffen

Leffen player card

The greatest European Melee player in recent history attended just four tournaments in 2024, all in North America. One of them, LACS Rivals, didn’t count toward the 2024 rankings. After just a month of derusting, Leffen remains a threat to win any tournament, not just ones in Europe. Will we see him at more Melee events in 2025? That remains uncertain. Leffen has shifted focus to becoming one of the best 2XKO players once the game releases. While we’re confident in his ability to dominate that scene, it’s unclear if he’ll find the time and motivation to reclaim his Melee crown.

Honourable Mention: Jadde

Jadde player card

The red Sheik from Sweden has been terrorizing Slippi Unranked in Europe for years and hasn’t slowed down. However, Jadde has continued his trend of scarce tournament attendance. A remarkable 5th place at Valhalla IV and two victories at Stockholm weeklies highlight his 2024, but these performances don’t provide enough data to qualify him for this ranking. Jadde is already signed up for Somnio 6 and Valhalla V. Let’s hope his registration isn’t just for show, so he can once again prove why even Europe’s very best must bring their A-game to keep up with him.

Honourable Mention: Pricent

Pricent player card

Norway’s pride and joy Fox player, Pricent has proven time and time again they are one of Europe’s best. Only attending 2 events this year but winning both of them handedly, Pricent continues to remind us that they are not to be forgotten. Having an incredible run at Valhalla IV at the start of the year picking up wins over irfan, max, Pipsqueak, Frenzy, and Nicki twice to win the whole tournament, it’s clear to everyone that Pricent is one of European Melee’s most legendary talents even with their sparse attendance. One can only hope to see them at more events at some point, but if they don't make it out, we’ll always have the twitter clips on Kingu.

(Thank you dang3r for guest writing this part!)

Honourable Mention: Pipsqueak

Pipsqueak player card

You know him, you love him—it's Pipsqueak. 2024 was another quiet year of Melee for Pip. A Top 8 finish at Valhalla IV and a strong 17th place at Get On My Level X with wins over Frenzy, Chango, and Faust are impressive, and Europe is proud to have a player like Pip representing us on the biggest stages. After GOML, Pip was only seen at Stockholm locals for the rest of the year. He has done the work to reach the top of not just European rankings, but global ones too. Whether he’s becoming GOATed at Rivals 2 or playing Donkey Kong on Unranked with Pricent watching over his shoulder, we’re happy to still have him around—even if he’s mostly just attending locals at the moment.

Honourable Mention: Squiltendorf

Squiltendorf player card

To make two things clear: No, Squiltendorf is not "SQUI#367", the famous Marth player you'll find on unranked who quits out on anything that knows how to ledgedash. Squiltendorf also does not play on a rectangle controller, despite his opponents complaining that it just feels like he is doing so - he has simply mastered the art of playing with a permanent claw grip on his GameCube controller.

A long-time hidden boss from Germany, known for defending the Berlin local scene from foreign invaders, Squiltendorf attended two large tournaments in Germany in 2024. In March, he placed 3rd at Kiez Klatsche, beating King, irfan, and astar, only being stopped by kins0 in two nail-biter sets. An early loss to flippy_o in the round-robin pool at SAPF didn’t slow him down either, as he went on to defeat Steff$, Fuzzyness, Smarted, and Nuckels en route to placing 9th at Europe’s largest tournament of the year. His run was eventually cut short by Frenzy and kins0.

Squiltendorf’s wins are impressive, and his losses are as respectable as they come. He also continued being the protector of Berlin, double-eliminating Californian Fox Snap at Jeden Donnerstag 219. With the German tournament scene growing continuously, one can hope to see Squiltendorf compete against Europe’s best more often this year. More than five years after switching to the NTSC version of the game, the top level of European Melee is somehow lacking Foxes—perhaps Squiltendorf can help revert that trend and bring EU spacies back on top.

Thank you for reading. We hope you will have as much fun following the release of this ranking as we had making it. A gigantic thank you to everyone who helped with this project - it would not be possible without the many, many people who are willing to put in the hours just to see it happen.
